Back in May, WWE released Shayna Baszler from her contract even though she still had three years remaining on her deal. And while it’s known that the 45-year-old has since worked in a producer role for NXT, her long-term future remains unclear. However, it appears she is open to joining AEW, having discussed this option during a new interview with Ariel Helwani, noting she’s close with Marina Shafir and there has been some discussion. Still, it isn’t known whether this discussion was just with Shafir or with someone in the company with hiring power.
Following an MMA career that saw her compete in the UFC, Baszler turned her focus to pro wrestling, training under Josh Barnett in 2015. From there, she worked indies and for World Wonder Ring Stardom in Japan, going on to sign with WWE in 2017. Subsequently, she has held the NXT Women’s Championship twice, although she wouldn’t reach the same level of success on the main roster, as Vince McMahon reportedly didn’t see her as a main eventer once he got to book her on Raw.
