Schism Members Comment On Their WWE Releases Being Denied

Three weeks ago, it was reported by Fightful Select that Jagger Reid (previously known as James Drake) and Rip Fowler (previously known as Zack Gibson) had requested their WWE releases. And subsequently, it was stated by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that both requests had been granted.

That, though, was thrown into doubt as the duo were both present at the subsequent NXT Level-Up tapings. And now the pair have broken their silence to confirm they were, in fact, denied their releases. However, they still intend to depart the company once their deals expire in October.

The British duo began their WWE careers under the tag team name of the Grizzled Young Veterans and were the inaugural NXT UK Tag Team Champions. However, once WWE decided to strictly enforce owning the names of all talents, the duo would be repackaged and given new names. This led to them joining Joe Gacy’s Schism faction, and while the group was much maligned at the time of its formation, once The Rock’s daughter Ava Raine joined them, it appeared they were set for big things.
