Saraya May Not Yet Be Medically Cleared To Wrestle

This past Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite saw former WWE star Paige make her AEW debut under her real name Saraya. And fans on social media would almost instantly begin speculating about who she should wrestle, with Dr. Britt Baker most commonly suggested. Unfortunately, though, her in-ring return may not be as soon as first anticipated, as the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has reported that as of their last update, she hadn’t been medically cleared to compete. However, while this sounds worrying, it’s doubtful that a major company like AEW would have signed her as a wrestler without medical checks and assurances.

There is no answer to the question as to what role she will play, if she will wrestle regularly, sparingly, or not at all.

We were told that she had not been cleared as of very recently, which would explain not touching anyone, but would like to be cleared. She is refereeing for her family’s WAW promotion in a few weeks.

Sadly, Saraya suffered a broken neck injury during a six-woman tag team match on December 27th, 2017, and had to have several metal screws inserted. Since then, she would survive multiple rounds of budget cuts, with it assumed by many WWE didn’t want to release someone who was hurt in their ring due to the possible bad publicity. And despite frequent rumors of a possible in-ring comeback, it would never occur, seemingly due to her inability to get medically cleared. Therefore the company let her contract expire earlier this year, having not used her in any capacity since March 2020 despite her popularity.
