In 2011, Ron Killings, then known as R-Truth, was suspended by WWE after testing positive for marijuana, with it later revealed that the company had held off the suspension until after his match alongside The Miz against The Rock and John Cena at that year’s Survivor Series. This led to considerable controversy at the time and prompted some fans to question the extent to which the WWE controlled its Wellness policy, which was intended to be independently administered.
Still, during a new interview with Daniel Sadoh, the much-loved WWE star has broken his silence on this incident and claimed his failure was due to being “around some people that were smoking,” suggesting secondhand cannabis smoke led to the failed drug test. And while Health-Street.net states it is “unlikely under normal circumstances,” it should be noted that Killings was traveling with Matt Sydal at the time, who was announced as violating WWE’s wellness policy twice around this time due to synthetic marijuana.
While Killings still got to wrestle in the main event of Survivor Series, his third-day suspension would somewhat derail his career, as after a feud with The Miz, he slid down the card, forming random tag teams with Kofi Kingston, Santino Marella, Xavier Woods, and Goldust in the following years. However, thanks to being a personal favorite of Vince McMahon, he was always considered a WWE lifer, which is why, when he announced earlier this month that his 17-year second run with the company was coming to an end, fans were shocked.
