Rob Zombie recently released the first live action look of his upcoming reboot of “The Munsters.” Following numerous updates via Instagram including a detailed look at Herman Munster and various cast updates, Zombie talked to Entertainment Weekly about the movie and the decision to produce the film in color as opposed to the black and white look of the original ’60s series.

“I knew that if I went in and demanded ‘This movie’s going to be in black and white or forget it!’ we would not be talking about the Munsters right now, because it would have never happened,” Zombie said. “I guaran-f—ing-tee it. But what I did do is I made the colors sort of hyper-real. I noticed when the actors were in their makeup and they were just walking around, getting lunch or whatever, they looked like cartoon characters come to life. They were just so insanely colorful. I was like, I have to light the movie in the same fashion. It really seemed at all times like a live action cartoon, which was really exciting.”

Earlier this week, Zombie revealed the first official poster for the upcoming movie with the caption: “Check it out ! The official one-sheet poster for THE MUNSTERS has arrived! So ghoulie groovy good!” Zombie also revealed that filming had officially wrapped in Budapest. “Well, that’s a wrap on everyone involved with THE MUNSTERS! Thanks Budapest you’ve been great. Enjoy your new Mockingbird Lane. Next stop the airport.” Written and directed by Zombie, “The Munsters”  stars Zombie’s wife Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster as well as Jeff Daniel Phillips as Frankenstein’s monster, Daniel Roebuck as The Count and Sylvester McCoy as Igor.

The aforementioned teaser begins with a recreation of the classic intro in black and white before the characters are presented in full color. Recently, the original Eddie Munster, Butch Patrick, shared details on the movie’s length in an interview with the 20TIMinutes podcast. “This movie is going to kill in a really good way. It’s a very long movie, it’s like 2 hours and 38 minutes … but I’ve seen footage and I’ve seen where he’s going with it and it’s going to be great, it really is.”
