Ridge Holland Reveals How Betting On Himself Backfired

Betting on yourself is openly discussed in the wrestling business, with many talents over the years sharing stories of sacrifice to achieve greater things in the long term. However, in an example of this backfiring, Ridge Holland, who is currently recovering from Lisfranc surgery, has stated on X that he actually turned down a three-year WWE contract for less money because he felt it was a better long-term financial decision to sign for just one year.

37-year-old Holland, real name Luke Menzies, traded his days as a journeyman rugby league player in England for a shot at professional wrestling in 2017. Subsequently, he signed a deal with WWE, thanks to his raw athleticism and striking physique, positioning him as a prime candidate for main-event stardom.

That promise, however, ended in the wake of his notorious botched spot with Big E on SmackDown, which left the beloved former WWE Champion with a broken neck. And while he would still receive opportunities from WWE management, a large percentage of fans turned against him, meaning few were surprised when it was revealed his contract wasn’t being renewed.
