Comedy rockers Steel Panther are an excellent parody of all things ’80s rock and have crafted numerous catchy glam metal albums since their mainstream emergence in 2009. The band mixes hair metal cliches with their own brand of often X-rated humor.
Recently, the band’s 2014 track, “Glory Hole,” ended up on LM Radio in South Africa. The station touts itself as playing “the smoothest tunes from the 70s to today,” and it issued an apology for airing the sleazy Steel Panther track.
“On behalf of LM Radio. I want to apologise unreservedly for the song ‘Glory Hole’ by Steel Panthers that was played just after 2pm yesterday (Sunday),” wrote Lyndon Johnstone from LM Radio. “This song, together with others from Steel Panthers, was inadvertently backed up onto our Server following the cyber-attack on our systems earlier this year. When an Hour is short-scheduled, the system automatically includes songs to fill the hour. ‘Glory Hole’ was unfortunately the song picked by the system.”
The station added: “We have immediately deleted ALL Steel Panther songs from our Servers. I again apologise for this and assure you that the content of that song does not resonate with who we are as a radio station and as individuals. – Lyndon Johnstone.”
The mix-up is of course hilarious, and Steel Panther responded: “They say, ‘We’re sorry.’ We say, ‘You’re welcome.'”
One of the more clever responses on social media was: “So an empty space was filled with a glory hole? Didn’t think that one through either.”
Steel Panther will tour throughout the U.S., Canada and Australia to finish out the year. The band is also releasing a new album, “On the Prowl,” next year, and they previously released the NSFW video for the first single,” It’s Never Too Late (To Get Some P*ssy Tonight).”
