Priscilla Kelly Rejected Idea To Work Alongside Her Then-Husband Darby Allin In AEW

TNT Champion Darby Allin’s ex-wife Priscilla Kelly is also a professional wrestler and has made a couple of appearances herself in AEW, although never alongside him. Now speaking on the Excuse Me: The Vickie Guerrero Show podcast, she’d reveal she could have had a regular role in the promotion but didn’t want to be associated with her then-husband onscreen. Her reasoning being she didn’t want to play second fiddle to him and wanted to make her own name.

The thought was thrown around for me to be put with Darby in AEW. Maybe like, “You come in, and you’ll be the wife and then like you get kicked in the face, and he then gets mad or something.” Like there was a lot of ideas thrown around. I explained to everybody, I said, “You know, I could come in, I could do a wife spot, and it could eventually lead into me having matches or whatever it may be. But here’s the problem with that. If I come in and I’m introduced as Darby’s wife, I’m forever by the fans gonna be known as just as his wife. And then from there on out, everything I do in the ring or on a promo is gonna be heavily, heavily compared to him. And I immediately become the Robin to the Batman.”

I think so many people don’t realize, and I’m sure a lot of women would be ok with that kind of role, but me personally, when I’ve worked just as hard and just as long for my career, I don’t want my entire work and passion to be credited or overshadowed by your partner.Priscilla Kelly

Allin and Kelly married in 2018 but announced this past August that they were going through a divorce. Despite the divorce now being official, Kelly told Guerrero they are still best friends and didn’t rule out the possibility of them getting remarried in the future.

With us, we realize we got married really young and really fast. He proposed after dating me for four months. That works for some people, but for us, we realized we were not mature enough to handle that label of marriage. Sometimes just the label of marriage can add so much pressure and stress to a relationship. It’s hard to get people who haven’t been married to understand that. Let’s remove this label, and then let’s see how things go.

Since we removed that label of being married, we’ve been getting along great. We are best friends. We hang out all the time. We never have any conflict. We both still have little issues. We are both really young. We are still learning where we want to go with our careers and where we want our lives to go. It’s a lot all at once. I think people need to stop damning the word divorce because it sounds horrible, but sometimes you can get a divorce, spend a few years learning about yourselves and mature as a human being, and years later, try again, and it probably would be a lot better.Priscilla Kelly

While Kelly isn’t yet a well-known name in wrestling, some fans will know her for the reality television show My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding. She also went viral in 2018 after using a used tampon during a match on an indie show. While the tampoon hadn’t really been used, the spot received a lot of criticism from those in the business, including Gail Kim, Road Dogg, and Jim Cornette. Cornette would go as far as to call her an outlaw mud show rassler and accused her of helping kill the business.
