The Pretty Reckless have had arguably their most successful run over the past few years playing around the globe in the coveted opening slot with rock icons AC/DC while simultaneously releasing new, critically-acclaimed music. Singer Taylor Momsen has also been in the press quite a bit recently as she paid homage to her child acting days as Cindy Lou Who from “The Grinch” with the band’s re-recording of “Where Are You Christmas” and the release of a holiday-themed EP.
Recently she did an interview with The Zach Sang Show where she went in-depth on her entire career. The first real tour The Pretty Reckless performed was back in 2010 when they appeared on the famed Warped Tour. Momsen doesn’t hold fond memories of the trek. “It’s like a very gross band summer camp,” she said. “It was our first tour, too, our first real tour. In one way, I think it was good for us that the grind of that tour is ridiculous, so it put you through multiple shows a week. And they also don’t tell you what time you’re playing till the morning of. You get punished if you don’t go to a press tent, and you get a sh*tty slot.”
She continued: “Like there was the whole dynamic to Warped Tour that I thought was a bunch of bullsh*t, but, you know, whatever, but it put you through the wringer of what touring is like in the most extreme circumstances — heat, tour buses breaking, and no bathrooms — all the grossness of the road in one place.”
Momsen said the tour did toughen the group up to being on the road, but she still wouldn’t want to repeat the experience. “So, in one way, it was good,” she admitted. “And the other way, it is completely unprofessional and not what touring is like at all. You know, I take touring very seriously. I take the show very seriously. And that is not what that environment is. That environment is a rolling party of bands with no rules, mayhem, debauchery. I think the fans probably had a really great time. I think the bands had a really great time. I did not have a really great time on Warped Tour. It was just an experience, one that I wouldn’t want to do again.”
