In 1995, an intimate video featuring Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee and “Baywatch” star Pamela Anderson was stolen from the couple’s home. The incident is the basis for the new eight-part Hulu series, “Pam & Tommy.” The show has drawn mixed reviews including a scathing post from former Motley Crue singer John Corabi. Now, Anderson is set to tell the story herself in a new Netflix documentary. “My life/ A thousand imperfections/ A million misperceptions/ Wicked, wild and lost/ Nothing to live up to /I can only surprise you /Not a victim, but a survivor /And alive to tell the real story,” reads her handwritten note on Netflix letterhead on Instagram.
Anderson’s son, Brandon Thomas Lee will serve as producer on the project. He reposted the note on his Instagram story underscoring the phrase, “The real story.” The documentary, directed by Ryan White, has apparently been in the works for several years and will include archival footage, her personal journals and exclusive access to the pop culture icon. “Pam & Tommy” is the fictionalized account of the stolen videotape saga. The tape was leaked online, prompting the couple to sue the Internet Entertainment Group, the distributor which sold it in 1998 making a reported $77 million in less than a year. A Netflix tweet added that the documentary will “feature the pop culture icon setting the record straight as she looks back on her professional path and her personal journey.”
“Pam & Tommy” star Sebastian Stan told Variety he is looking forward to the documentary. “I think it’s great,” he said. “I’m feeling grateful and hopeful that the show inspired further conversation and another deeper look that it deserves, so I look forward to seeing it.”
Of “Pam & Tommy,” Corabi said: “Ok….just my opinion here on something that’s been bugging me. The Tommy And Pam miniseries on Hulu, is so full of bullsh*t, it’s ridiculous!!!! I can honestly say about 98% of this ‘FICITIONAL’ take on T&P’s life is CRIMINAL. I shared 5 years of my life with Tommy and although it was at times INSANITY it’s sooooo overblown in this SH*T they call TV entertainment! Tommy never walked around in a Speedo, didn’t act at all they way they portray him, and now I see that THIRD EYE BLIND ‘bumps’ us from a studio, because they’re more relevant???? DID NOT HAPPEN…!!! “Shame on EVERYONE involved…”
