Metallica is currently on tour in South America. The band recently released pro-shot footage of “Creeping Death,” “No Leaf Clover” and “Seek & Destroy” from a show in Argentina. What wasn’t caught on camera was the birth of a newborn at Metallica’s show in Curitiba, Brazil. Tattoo artist Joice M. Figueiró was seated in the accessible/disabled section of Estádio Couto Pereira. At 39 weeks pregnant, she felt fine during opening acts Ego Kill Talent and Greta Van Fleet but reportedly started having contractions when Metallica arrived on stage. Her water broke on the way to the outpatient clinic at the show and “Luan Figueiró came into the world on 05/07/2022 at 23:15 shaking all the metal structures”, she wrote on Instagram.
According to the tattoo artist, the baby arrived as Metallica played its final song of the set, “Enter Sandman.” “At every show I go to, something has to happen, but this time I think I’ve outdone myself,” she commented. “I bought this ticket three years ago and I never imagined something like this would happen.” Recently, iconic producer Bob Rock re-teamed with one member of the Metallica camp as he produced Kirk Hammet’s solo EP, “Portals.” Hammett was asked why he chose Rock to produce the EP instead of usual Metallica engineer Greg Fidelman and hinted that Metallica may be up to something soon. Hammett mentioned Fidelman twice and said he “had his hands full with all sorts of other Metallica stuff” and “he was up to his neck in other Metallica commitments.”
Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has also made recent headlines announcing that his group, The Chophouse Band, will record and release its debut album. He also said that he came close to joining Van Halen late last year. According to The Palm Beach Post, drummer Alex Van Halen had already tapped Joe Satriani to replace the late, great Eddie Van Halen, and the two were searching for a bass player for a possible Van Halen tour. Newsted apparently agreed to go to California to jam with the pair, but he thought it would be impossible to do justice to Van Halen’s legacy. Newsted was also upset that the Palm Beach Post article focused more on his career than the charity gig that the article was intended to promote.
