New WWE Trademark Application Could Have Revealed The Return Of Failed ThunderDome Era Character

Trademarks are an essential part of the pro wrestling business, and WWE keeps its legal team busy with regular applications. Therefore, many people follow WWE’s trademark filings online to see what the company has planned. However, WWE’s latest filing has left fans scratching their heads, as on Thursday they applied to own the name “Slapjack.” Whether this means WWE is looking to bring back the former Retribution character is unclear, but considering how loathed the stable was, it would be a bizarre decision.

The masked Slapjack character was portrayed by Australian wrestler Shane Veryzer from 2020 to 2021. At the time, WWE had decided that putting together several disgruntled NXT wrestlers into an unruly group would be a great way to introduce them to the main roster. Yet despite the wrestlers being talented, their cheap-looking masks and costumes, and overall storyline would see them heavily mocked online. Therefore, fans quickly grew tired of the act, and most consider the faction to be the lowlight of the ThunderDome Era.
