WWE is currently part way through its annual draft, and with NXT talents known to be heavily featured this year, some significant changes could come to all three of the promotions brands. And now confirming that WWE is keeping call-ups close to their chest, Fightful Select has reported that former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion Kiana James wasn’t made aware ahead of time she was joining Raw, despite a video package being produced earlier in the week.
“Kiana James was genuinely surprised by her callup, as she was not told what brand she would end up on post the Draft. James’ video package was prepared earlier this week.”
Fightful Select26-year-old Kiana James, real name Kayla Klingensmith, made her pro wrestling debut in 2021 on AEW Dark, and despite wrestling a few more matches for Tony Khan’s promotion, she signed with WWE in early 2022. Subsequently, she was fast-tracked onto NXT television, and just over a year later, she would win the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships with Fallon Henley, demonstrating that the company saw real potential in her.
