In May 2009, Mr. Kennedy made his WWE comeback from injury during a multi-man tag match, and it appeared he was set for a huge push. However, he was subsequently fired after Randy Orton told Vince McMahon that, during the match, he had been dropped on his neck by a careless Kennedy. And while it’s well-known that John Cena also spoke negatively to McMahon about Kennedy, during a recent episode of his podcast, the former TNA star has revealed that it was Cena who “was way more involved” in getting him fired.
Kennedy debuted in 1999 and appeared intermittently for WWE as an enhancement talent until 2005, when he inked a full-time contract and headed to their developmental territory, OVW. From there, he would be introduced to the main roster and quickly won over audiences by doubling as his own announcer, famously repeating his character’s surname twice while the crowd joined in. Yet, even though he was viewed as a future main eventer, as mentioned above, he was shockingly released, leaving a TNA run as his only realistic option to make a decent living as a full-time wrestler.
