Nowadays, fans love outlandish gimmick wrestlers, and while some, like Steven Flowe and Luigi Primo, quickly come and go, others, such as Danhausen, have shown it is possible to have a proper career. At the moment, the latest flavor of the month is Mr. Iguana, who grabbed WWE fans’ attention at last weekend’s World Collide show thanks to his unique look and toy iguana.
However, it now appears he already has heat with WWE management after he told Linea Directa TV during an interview that he was heading straight to the main roster and was considered “the fastest rising star” in terms of expected merchandise sales. And now, during Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has reported that the luchador “begged” to get the interview taken down, seemingly having realized he’d been far too open.
36-year-old Mr. Iguana, real name Santiago Ibarra Calderón, initially broke into the business in 2009, and after gaining some level of fame through wrestling matches for CMLL in 2015, he went on to perform for their biggest rivals, AAA, in 2018. This would subsequently see AAA become his home promotion, and thanks to TKO’s acquisition of the lucha libre company, he may now end up being the most surprising WWE Superstar ever.
