Mötley Crüe is going through a well-publicized split with former guitarist Mick Mars. The 71-year-old co-founder of the band sued the group earlier this month for cutting his pay and essentially forcing him out of the group.

Among Mars’ claims is that Mötley Crüe’s live performances are largely pre-recorded. Mars called the 36 gigs he did with the band on last year’s Stadium Tour as the “worst” shows he’s ever had with the band

“Yes, on this particular tour, Nikki’s bass was 100% recorded,” Mars told Variety. Tommy’s drums, to the best of my knowledge, there was a lot. I can’t say he did all of it recorded, but there were some reports from people in the audience that said, ‘Oh, I heard the drums playing, but there’s no Tommy on there. The song started, and there’s no drummer.’ Stuff like that. And actually everything that we did on that stadium tour was on tape, because if we didn’t, if we missed a part, the tape would keep rolling and you’d miss it.”

“Anyway, that was the worst 36 gigs ever had with the band,” he added. “It was 36 because they knew I wanted to retire from it after (the first 12).”

In a new video circulating online, Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil is shown leading the audience to a singalong of “Same Ol’ Situation.” He picks up the mic and points it at the crowd while his lead vocal track from the original song clearly keeps playing.

Coincidentally, Mötley Crüe has been booked to play the NFL Draft on April 28 in Kansas City. They posted on Facebook: “Looking forward to playing live at the NFL draft next week – see you there or streamed out to the world.”

Among the loudest critics of Mötley Crüe is L.A. Guns singer Phil Lewis, who blasted the band in an interview last week. L.A. Guns guitarist Tracii Guns also re-tweeted the video of Vince Neil’s performance with the caption, “Oh FFS.”

Lewis said of Mötley Crüe: “I mean, they’d probably sound like utter sh*t if they were live, with the big stadium and the big lights and Vince singing in the way that we’ve come to know and love. They really are a f*cking atrocious band; they always have been. And the only good player, the only good one in the band, has been very unceremoniously dismissed.”
