MMA Pioneer-Turned-Pro Wrestler Don Frye Hospitalized

In unfortunate news, UFC Hall of Famer Don Frye has disclosed on his YouTube channel that he is currently hospitalized following a recurrence of atrial fibrillation, a heart arrhythmia he previously had treated in 2016. After months of declining health, his former rival, Gary Goodridge, alerted Frye’s daughter that he was struggling, and she promptly took him to the hospital despite his initial resistance. Frye is now responding well to treatment and appears to be in good spirits during recovery.

“What brought me in here is my daughter. Gary Goodridge turned on me, betrayed me, went behind my back, called the boss. The boss came over and threw me in the truck, and I got stuck here for a few days. I had AFib again. They shocked me out of that back in 2016. It lasted almost, almost a decade, I’ve been feeling like sh*t for the last couple of years, but in the last three or four months I’ve been really going downhill, really steady, really fast.”Don Frye

60-year-old Don Frye transitioned from MMA to professional wrestling in 1997, debuting in New Japan Pro-Wrestling after training with Brad Rheingans and Curt Hennig. He quickly became a top gaijin heel, winning the 1998 Antonio Inoki Final Opponent tournament to face Inoki in what was promoted as his retirement match. Over the years, he would share the ring with names such as Keiji Muto, Scott Hall, Vader, and Jushin Liger. However, arguably his most memorable matches came with Scott Norton, whom he challenged for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship multiple times.
