MJF’s AEW Future Remains Uncertain After He Left Arena Straight After Match With Wardlow

Over the weekend, the main talking point in the world of pro wrestling was MJF’s status with AEW. This is because the star who feels underpaid would choose to skip his meet-and-greet session at the company’s fan fest and book a flight out of town. However, despite AEW at one making the YouTube video promoting his match with Wardlow private and him not being backstage the afternoon before the show, his match would still occur and kicked off the main Double or Nothing show.

Ultimately though, the match would come across as a near squash, as Wardlow would dominate MJF, with the disgruntled AEW star receiving ten powerbombs and, after being pinned, was stretched out. And while it isn’t known if this was the end of MJF’s career in AEW, considering the manner of his defeat, it certainly wouldn’t be surprising.

Now confirming his AEW future remains uncertain, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select has reported that MJF left the venue shortly after his match and told him he had a lot to think about. Additionally, following the show, Tony Khan would participate in a media scrum, and while he openly discussed many topics, when asked about MJF, he would decline to comment. This would seemingly dispel claims this is an elaborate work.

MJF is currently contracted to AEW until the end of 2023, and while it is known WWE has an interest in him, there is no way he could legally work for them until his deal expires. Therefore the ball is firmly in Khan’s court. Nevertheless, he may feel a disgruntled talent that wants to leave isn’t worth investing in going forward and opt to let MJF leave. Perhaps with MJF fulfilling his Double or Nothing obligations and making Wardlow look so strong being part of the release negotiations.
