Mick Mars Talks About Rejoining Motley Crue

About a month ago, former Motley Crue guitarist Mick Marks provided an update on his legal case against his former band. Mars claims he was unfairly cut out of profits from the group when he retired from touring and was replaced by guitarist John 5.

Mars was asked if he might ever sit down with his ex-bandmates to try to hash things out. “I would say it’s past… impossible,” Mars said. “I don’t have a gag order, but it’s like anything you say can and will be used against you. I have to be pretty cautious about what I say because it could be relevant to what’s going on.”

Mars gave a new interview to Riff X’s “Metal XS,” where he appeared to have changed his tune somewhat on the situation. It sounds like he’s not ruling out a possible return to the group at some point. “I can’t say it’s the end of my association or even being in the band,” he said. “When I retired, I still made myself available for new songs, short tours, one-offs or residencies and stuff like that. But I had this ankylosing spondylitis, and that intense touring, at my age, just got to be pretty rough. And that’s about it. It’s gonna be what it is, and I have to leave it at that. But you’ll follow it and know what’s going on.

Mars also talked about his legacy as a musician: “Being a musician was the most important thing for me. There’s a lot of bands that do that all jumping, theatrical stuff all over the stage. But I wasn’t that guy. I was the guy that goes, like, ‘I wanna play music. I really wanna play music. I really wanna write some serious stuff. I wanna do this. I wanna hear myself.’ This is when I’m a teenager, right? ‘I wanna hear myself on the radio. I wanna see my music in commercials,’ or whatever. And that’s what I wanted to do forever and ever and ever, and still do. And if I get a little bit upstaged or overlooked, because Motley was very theatrical, that’s okay, that’s okay. I’m about the music.”
