Jim Cornette famously described Matt Morgan as a future WrestleMania main eventer. Yet, his WWE career was essentially ruined by bad booking after Vince McMahon gave him a stuttering gimmick, which saw him introduce himself on television as “Matt M-mmm-mmm–Morgan.” Why McMahon thought someone having a speech impediment would help get them over is unknown. However, during a recent interview with Jonathan Coachman on Behind The Turnbuckle Studios, Morgan revealed that it was almost Brock Lesnar who got stuck with this potentially career-ending gimmick.

“Vince trying to sell the stuttering character, he actually wanted to put this on Brock Lesnar as God as my witness. He wanted to find somebody that’s jacked and has all these great physical attributes. That looks like a warrior as he put it. But that when they opened their mouth there was this verbal imperfection. Coach we could have had ‘The next Big Stutterer.'”Matt Morgan

48-year-old Morgan broke into the wrestling business via WWE’s developmental territory OVW following Tough Enough, debuting on the main roster in 2003. Yet, it was in TNA where he truly shone, as Morgan held the TNA Tag Team Championship twice, partnering with Hernandez and Crimson. He also had successful singles runs, feuding with top stars like Kurt Angle and Abyss. Still, in 2017, he decided his future was away from the ring, changing his political affiliation from Democrat to Republican and getting involved in politics.
