In recent years trademarks have been more critical than ever, and with wrestlers lawyering up, many have managed to get ownership of their past gimmick names. However, one wrestler who tried to do this but has gotten denied is Matt Cardona, who wanted ownership of “Zack Ryder.” This has been revealed by Cardona himself, who would confirm this surprising news while tweeting teen wrestling sensation Nick Wayne.
This will come as a blow to Cardona, who has also attempted to trademark his old catchphrase, “woo woo woo, you know it,” in recent weeks. And it can only be assumed WWE appealed the application, as it’s doubtful anyone else would have a claim. Nevertheless, Cardona has done a fantastic job of branding himself under his real name, and some would have seen any usage of Zack Ryder as a backward step.
