Living Colour Plays CM Punk To The Ring At WrestleMania (w/Video)

Veteran rockers Living Colour have long been associated with CM Punk through their 1988 hit song “Cult of Personality.” Punk has used the tune as his entrance music for the majority of his career, and on the first night of Wrestlemania he walked the aisle to a live version performed by the band.

Prior to last night, Living Colour last played Punk to the ring at Wrestlemania back in 2013. Punk previously revealed that the reason he uses the track is that it was his little league baseball team’s theme song. “The thing with CM Punk was a very personal thing for him,” said Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid. “His little league team used to use that music. He had a connection to it from when he was real young.”

Back in the late ‘80s, “Cult of Personality” reached No. 9 on Billboard’s Hot 100, and “Vivid”, the album it came from, sold more than two million copies. “What you had previously imagined about success turns out to be totally different. I didn’t have anything to compare it to. It was like I was having an out-of-body experience.” Reid continued about “Cult of Personality”: “It’s a great song, and I love playing it.” He laughs. “There’s a special place in hell for musicians who have a hit song that they despise, but you won’t find me there.”
