In the past few months, rocker and horror movie mastermind Rob Zombie has provided periodic updates on his reboot of ’60s television classic, “The Munsters.” He first revealed a spooky looking castle in Budapest where the production had been filming. He also shared that Catherine Schell, who starred as Maya from “Space: 1999,” would play the part of Zoya Krupp. Then he announced the addition of Jorge Garcia to the cast to play Floop, Dr. Wolfgang’s assistant and Herman Munster’s best friend. Now, Zombie has revealed that legendary horror actress Cassandra Peterson, best known as “Elvira Mistress of the Dark,” has joined the film having been cast as real estate agent Barbara Carr.

Zombie wrote on Instagram: “ATTENTION CASTING NEWS! Straight from the set of THE MUNSTERS is your first look at Barbara Carr, the #1 real estate agent in all of Mockingbird Heights. Barbara is played by none other the CASSANDRA PETERSON @therealelvira. Yes, the Mistress of the Dark has joined the cast of THE MUNSTERS. Stay tuned for more exciting news to come.”

“The Munsters” TV show was based around a family of monsters in the style of a sitcom, and it ran for 70 episodes from 1964 to 1966. Garcia is most well known for playing Hugo Reyes in the ABC drama series, “Lost.” He has also starred in “Hawaii Five-O” and the Adam Sandler film, “The Ridiculous 6.” Zombie’s wife, Sheri Moon Zombie will play Lily Munster, and Jeff Daniel Phillips will star as Herman. Daniel Roebuck, Richard Brake and Sylvester McCoy also all star in the film.

Zombie said that the reboot is rated PG. “For those of you speculating, wondering and assuming that ‘The Munsters’ would be dirty, violent and nasty…well, you are wrong,” Zombie wrote on Instagram while announcing his reboot’s PG rating. “It’s all good down on Mockingbird Lane.”

Zombie’s directing career kicked off in the early 2000s with hardcore horror films “House of 1000 Corpses” (2003) and “The Devil’s Rejects” (2005). He then gained more mainstream appeal as the writer and director of “Halloween,” a 2007 reimagining of John Carpenter’s classic slasher. Zombie’s “Halloween” starred Tyler Mane as Michael Myers and grossed over $80 million at the box office despite negative reviews. Zombie directed a sequel, “Halloween II,” which was released in 2009.
