Past “American Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson transitioned her singing and reality show fame into daytime talk show success. As part of “The Kelly Clarkson” show, the singer has added a “Kellyoke” segment where she does her own renditions of popular tunes.
While most of her covers have come from the pop world, earlier this week, Clarkson covered the Whitesnake mega-hit “Here I Go Again,” and the result is solid.
“Here I Go Again” was originally released on Whitesnake’s 1982 album “Saints & Sinners.” The power ballad got a makeover for the band’s 1987 self-titled album and was an instant smash. The tune reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the video, which featured actress and vixen Tawny Kitaen, is one of the most iconic from the ’80s rock era. Footage of Kitaen writhing around on the hood of a Jaguar in the “Here I Go Again” clip has been called one of the most iconic — and sexiest — video moments ever filmed.
Kitaen was briefly married to Whitensnake frontman David Coverdale, and she also appeared in the videos for “Is This Love” and “Still Of The Night.”
In May of 2021, “Here I Go Again” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs chart following the passing of Kitaen at the age of 59.
