The relationship between Journey guitarist Neal Schon and keyboardiist Jonathan Cain has been contentious in recent years to say the least. The pair have sued one another, argued over politics and money, and it’s been quite a feat that they’ve both co-existed in the band for as long as they have.
Apparently, however, Cain is exiting the group. Schon wrote via social media: “Jonathan Cain announced his farewell to Journey tonight. I’m nowhere near done! Journey has so much more life ahead! I’m sure we will have a great tour!” After one of Schon’s followers commented that it was “a sad day” seeing Cain exit, the guitarist replied: “He wants to do his ministry.”
Cain made a post to his X account touting his upcoming single “No One Else,” which was written in honor of activist Charlie Kirk who was shot and killed last month at an Utah college debate event. Cain made no mention, however, of leaving Journey.
Cain has co-written several of Journey’s biggest songs including the mega-hit “Don’t Stop Believin’”, “Faithfully,” “Open Arms” and “Who’s Crying Now,” among several others.
