Wrestlepalooza was a highly anticipated event to kick off WWE’s partnership with ESPN, featuring a match between John Cena and the returning Brock Lesnar. Yet, while it appeared a forgone conclusion that Lesnar would win, given that Cena was on his retirement run, few expected it to be a quick squash.
And now, while discussing this with Chris Van Vliet, Cena has revealed this was fine with this booking choice to reestablish Lesnar as an unstoppable monster, stating, “I’m on my way out. It’s not going to hurt me.“
At one point, Brock Lesnar’s wrestling career appeared to be over after he was implicated in Janel Grant’s shocking lawsuit. Given the level of star that Lesnar is, WWE renewed his contract and reintroduced him at SummerSlam at the conclusion of the show. Subsequently, he would squash Cena in his first match back as mentioned above, and has since featured at a Survivor Series as a participant in the WarGames main event.
