ECW original The Sandman recently claimed in an interview that while working for WWE in 2007, the company seriously considered putting their World Tag Team Championships on him and Jim Duggan. This surprised many, as the odd couple pair only teamed twice, with just one of their matches airing on television. However, it appears that Duggan himself was more surprised than the fans who heard this claim, as he has told WrestleTalk, “He might have come up with that one late at night,” suggesting there is no truth to the claim.
WWE’s roster in 2007 was quite eccentric by modern-day standards, as it included stars of the time such as Triple H, The Undertaker, and Jeff Hardy, alongside several ECW originals who were under contract. Additionally, wrestlers who would be classified as legends, such as Dusty Rhodes, Jimmy Snuka, Jerry Lawler, and even Henry O. Godwinn, were still working matches. Yet despite this, the idea of The Sandman and Jim Duggan not only being pushed as a team, but also winning the straps, seems unlikely, especially when WWE had access to duos like The Hardy Boyz, MNM, Deuce ‘n Domino, and Cryme Tyme at the time.
