Jack Perry Reflects On His Infamous Backstage Altercation With CM Punk

Jack Perry Reflects On His Infamous Backstage Altercation With CM Punk At AEW All In 2023 in London, Jack Perry referenced a prior dispute with CM Punk by saying, “real glass, cry me a river” during his pre-show match after using actual glass in a spot Punk had opposed for safety reasons. Backstage, Punk confronted Perry, leading to a physical altercation where Punk shoved and choked him briefly before they were separated.

AEW subsequently fired Punk shortly after, while Perry was suspended indefinitely. Eventually, Perry returned in 2024 as “The Scapegoat,” and now, in a new interview with Renee Paquette, the 28-year-old has reflected on this challenging period in his career.

“I feel like I’ve grown a lot from it, but I feel like the growth came from a lot of it sounds dramatic to say pain, but it wasn’t the nicest of times, for most of that time. It really freed me in a lot of ways. It’s kind of like before all that feels like another lifetime at this point, and I think back to how I felt before that, and a big thing I had was like, it sounds silly, I just wanted everyone to like me. Through all that, I finally realised there are some people that are never gonna like me no matter what I do.”Jack Perry

Perry is the son of the late actor Luke Perry, but rather than following in his famous father’s footsteps, he opted for a career in pro wrestling. This would see him debut in 2015 on the independent circuit as Jungle Boy, leading to his joining AEW in 2019, when Tony Khan needed talented, yet unknown performers to bolster his roster. From there, he has won the AEW World Tag Team Championships alongside Luchasaurus and later held the TNT and FTW titles, establishing himself as a key member of the promotion.
