It’s Party Time Again For Wayne & Garth

It’s Party Time Again For Wayne & Garth

“Wayne’s World” stars Mike Myers and Dana Carvey became the iconic hard rocking comedy duo Wayne and Garth, first on “Saturday Night Live” and then with the release of their 1992 blockbuster. A critical and commercial success, “Wayne’s World” was the tenth-highest grossing film that year, and it spawned the sequel, “Wayne’s World 2” the following year.

But despite their on-screen chemistry, Myers and Carvey had a professional rivalry that turned ugly prior to filming “Wayne’s World.” Carvey actually quit the film after reading the first script co-written by Myers when his role was diminished to that of a sidekick instead of a co-star. Their relationship got worse when Myers allegedly lifted Carvey’s impression of “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels for his Dr. Evil character in the “Austin Powers” franchise. But now it appears that the duo has buried the hatch according to Carvey who recently appeared on “The Howard Stern Show.”

“We’ve come full circle since I talked to you last [2019]. We’ve become very very close friends,” Carvey told Stern. “The only good thing about getting old is you just, sort of get a little more wisdom, you get a little more perspective and you practice forgiveness for others and for yourself.” Myers and Carvey filmed a 2021 Super Bowl commercial based on “Wayne’s World,” and the duo began to mend their relationship then. “We got closer during that whole process and started talking more. It’s very nice to have such a long friendship with someone, and everyone knows what we’re talking about … I just feel like I came to know him in a much better way as we’ve been really really talking these last couple years, and kind of put him in context — understand him. “Everyone has a 10-year-old boy inside them, or girl. That little person gets very jealous of the shiny new toy, very envious. As friends in these last few years, you put down all your weapons and you’re just very vulnerable and very honest. It’s a great way to be with someone.”

The soundtrack of “Wayne’s World” reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and featured tracks from Alice Cooper, Jimi Hendrix and most famously, Queen, whose “Bohemian Rhapsody” was famously used during a head banging car scene. “Wayne’s World 2” also featured a cameo from Aerosmith.
