Is This The Next Drummer For The Foo Fighters?

A large cast of talented drummers performed with the Foo Fighters during the group’s tribute concerts last year to their fallen friend and bandmate, Taylor Hawkins.

At the Los Angeles concert, Lars Ulrich of Metallica, Travis Barker of blink-182, Stewart Copeland of the Police, Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine, Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Theodore of Queens of the Stone Age, Rufus Taylor of Darkness, Patrick Wilson of Weezer, session players Josh Freese and Omar Hakim, and Hawkins’s own son, Shane all took the throne in tribute of Hawkins.

One of the most emotional moments of both shows came when Shane joined the band for “My Hero.” The 16-year-old arguably was the show-stealer at both concerts, and his initial performance in London went viral shortly after it happened.

Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian said: “Shane Hawkins played like it’s his throne. Not a dry eye over here. Cheers Shane.” Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider posted: “Holy sh*t. Chills. Just chills. Beautiful.”

Since the concert, Foo Fighters announced their plans to continue as a “different band” going forward. The group also revealed details on their forthcoming album “But Here We Are,” which is set to drop on June 2.

One piece of news that hasn’t been revealed yet, however, is who will take over for Hawkins in a permanent role on drums.

Rumors are swirling now, however, that the spot could be filled by The Darkness’ drummer Rufus Taylor.

His father, legendary Queen drummer Roger Taylor, was asked by BBC Radio 2 if Rufus could be joining the Foo Fighters on tour.

“Well, Rufus is phenomenal,” Roger said. “He’s turned into this scary, great drummer with The Darkness. I watched them the other day at Wembley Arena. Phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal band, great band live. I love The Darkness. My son, he’s just annoyingly powerful and he’s become very, very good. I can’t say any more!”

When asked again if he could be joining the Foo Fighters, Roger said: “Well, he does play brilliantly with them. He knows all their stuff, knows them all very well. He did play ‘Best of You’ with the Foos, and it was phenomenal at Wembley, and at The Forum in LA. What exactly is happening now, I don’t know.”

Rufus not only performed with Foo Fighters for their London tribute show for Hawkins, but he’s also appeared with them prior. He is also the godson of the late Hawkins.

Foo Fighters didn’t reveal who played drums for their upcoming studio record, though many suspect that Dave Grohl performed the parts. However, Rufus Taylor’s connections to the band are certainly present, giving more weight to the rumor.
