Impact Wrestling Announces Joe Doering’s Brain Cancer Has Returned

Joe Doering, a two-time Impact World Tag Team Champion as part of Violent By Design, is, unfortunately, having to take time away from the ring due to the brain cancer he battled in 2016, having returned. Back then, he underwent surgery within days of the diagnosis, and while he was given the all-clear, he was warned he needed to be vigilant regarding a return. According to Impact Wrestling, who made the announcement on their website, he made them aware of the sad news last weekend and will be undergoing surgery shortly.

IMPACT Wrestling star Joe Doering is stepping away from competition to take care of his health. The 40-year-old battled brain cancer six years ago and, at last weekend’s taping at The Factory in Dallas, he informed IMPACT Wrestling management that the disease has returned. Joe will be undergoing surgery in the coming weeks.

40-year-old Doering began wrestling training in 2004 and got his break wrestling for Impact Wrestling’s current EVP Scott D’Amore’s promotion Border City Wrestling. Then following a run in TNA and years on the indies and competing in Japan, he would sign with WWE in February 2010. However, he would wrestle less than 20 matches for WWE’s development territory FCW before being released later that same year.

Nevertheless, he wouldn’t let this derail his career, and he returned to Japan. During this run, he would twice win the Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship, which at one time was one of the most prestigious titles in pro wrestling, with names such as Mitsuharu Misawa, Vader, and Kenta Kobashi having held the title in the 90s. And it was between these two championship runs he discovered his initial brain cancer diagnosis and was sidelined for eleven months while recovering.
