Hootie & the Blowfish released their debut album, “Cracked Rear View,” back in 1994, and the album went on to sell a staggering 21 million copies in the United States alone. On the back the back of three Top 10 singles, “Hold My Hand,” “Let Her Cry,” and “Only Wanna Be with You,” it’s the 19th-best selling album of all time in the U.S.

The band’s frontman Darius Rucker has also parlayed his Hootie fame into a successful solo career, but Rucker suffered a setback earlier this week when he was arrested in the Middle Tennessee area on three charges including two for simple possession of a controlled substance. TMZ reported that Rucker was booked at 12:15 p.m. central time on Thursday and released just under two hours later on $10,500 bond.

“Darius Rucker is fully cooperating with authorities related to misdemeanor charges,” his lawyer said in a statement. Madhousemagazine.com reported that Rucker led police on a low speed golf cart chase before he crashed his cart into the water on a golf course in his gated community. Rucker was also charged with driving with an expired registration or license plates.

Rucker released a solo album last fall, “Carolyn’s Boy,” which is a tribute to his mother. He’s set for a Friday night concert at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, and he’ll head out on a European tour later this year.

Rucker’s ex-girlfriend, comedian Kate Quigley, responded to the arrest on social media saying: “Yes. I’ve heard. All I can say is Karma.” She later shared a photo of herself smiling with the caption: “Mood when u hear your d-bag ex got arrested. #Karma.”
