John Cena’s retirement tour has been deeply disappointing, with his heel turn lacking the impact most expected. Moreover, his final WrestleMania match is widely regarded as one of the event’s weakest main events due to its lackluster execution and the absence of The Rock’s anticipated involvement. And now with just a handful of dates left, former WWE and WCW writer Vince Russo has claimed on his YouTube show Cena is himself disappointed, and even claims his team has spoken to AEW, which, to be fair, does sound far-fetched.
48-year-old Cena made his WWE debut in 2002, and despite some initial setbacks, rose to the top thanks to his charismatic persona and rap-inspired gimmick. From there, he won his first world championship in 2005, and over the next 20 years, he would have memorable feuds with the likes of Edge, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, CM Punk, Brock Lesnar, and even The Rock. Therefore, while this final run has failed to live up to expectations, his legacy as a WWE icon is fully assured.
