Former AWA Tag Team Champion Steve Regal Has Passed Away In sad news, Billy Corgan’s NWA has announced on X that “Mr. Electricity” Steve Regal has passed away. According to reports, the former AWA wrestler, who most famously held the AWA World Tag Team Championship with Jimmy Garvin in 1985, actually passed away in July at the age of 73, although it was only now publicly disclosed.
Regal rose to prominence in the AWA during the mid-1980s, capturing the AWA World Light Heavyweight Championship in 1984 and the AWA World Tag Team Championship the following year. During his two-decade career, Regal also secured the NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Championship twice and the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship. Additionally, he would go on to work for WWE in an enhancement role, putting over names like Tito Santana and The Honky Tonk Man, eventually retiring in 1996.
