Stone Temple Pilots, Cheap Trick, Bush, Rose Tattoo, Electric Mary and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club teamed up for the “Under The Southern Stars” tour which made its way through Australia recently. STP released their first all-acoustic album, “Perdida,” in February of 2020 marking the second album with lead singer Jeff Gutt. His recording debut with the group was on its self-titled seventh album, which arrived in March 2018.

During a recent performance in the Gold Coast of Australia, STP stopped mid-song to break up a mosh pit fight (see video below). Co-headliners Bush had issues during their set, too, but singer Gavin Rossdale didn’t notice the commotion. Gutt interrupted the band’s set after spotting the brawl yelling at his bandmates to stop. “Hey! Stop the f*cking fight. Hey, stop the song, stop playing. Are you p*ssies here to fight or have a good time?” he yelled through the microphone. “Stop the fighting, there’s enough hate in this f*cking world.” Gutt then ordered security to the area. “We’ve got a couple of idiots over here,” he said, before the band started up again. “All right, back to the music. Relax.”

Later in the night, according to The Daily Mail, a woman complained she had been punched in the head during Bush’s set. “The British band took the stage last, playing their smash hits from the 1990s and 2000s before a huge fight broke out,” read an article in The Daily Mail. “A woman began screaming at people dancing beside her before a man punched her in the head. The woman fell to the ground as the massive fracas ensued — but Bush continued to play.” Several people were reportedly treated, but Queensland Police said no charges were filed as a result of either fight.

Stone Temple Pilots features original members, bassist Robert DeLeo, guitarist Dean DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz, along with singer Gutt, a 45-year-old Michigan native who was previously a contestant on “The X Factor.” He joined the band in 2017 after beating out around 15,000 hopefuls during an extended search over more than a year. Original vocalist Scott Weiland died in 2015 of a drug overdose. He was briefly replaced by Linkin’ Park frontman Chester Bennington who departed after 3 years with the group to focus more on his main band. Bennington committed suicide in July 2017.
