Dino Cazares Reveals How Fear Factory Will Be Saving Money On Next Tour

The cost of touring has made headlines recently in the hard rock/heavy metal world as numerous bands have pulled out of planned concerts due to logistics and out of control costs.

Anthrax previously pulled out of a European tour and explained: “Sadly due to ongoing logistical issues and 2022 costs that are out of our control, we have no other option but to cancel the European leg of our upcoming 2022 tour,” the band announced. “It doesn’t work when tour buses double and triple in cost.”

Other bands including Dark Funeral and Bad Omens have explained that venues are taking a cut of merchandise money, and it occasionally costs more to sell merchandise than they make.

Fear Factory guitarist Dino Cazares is the latest to chime in on how difficult it has become to tour. Cazares responded to a story from Metal Injection about the costs of touring and wrote:  “That’s why this tour we are doing coming up we’ll be in a van, the cost of touring is making it impossible to make any money,” he said.

A fan asked Cazares his thoughts on merchandise cuts and the possibility of selling merch outside the venue.

“U may need a resellers license to sell outside and the venue owner may still try and tax u cause your selling on his property, he may also call the police cause he knows u probably don’t have a license to sell, so to avoid all that u would have to go down the block to sell,” he wrote.

Cazares would later add on Twitter: “I like how a lot of people/fans are talking negative about me cause I said it’s getting harder and harder to make a living on tour because of high expenses and merch %. All bands are going through the same thing ,just some choose to not be vocal about it.”

Ticketmaster fees have also long been an issue for fans and artists alike making the current touring landscape all the more challenging.
