Ex-Iron Maiden Singer Shares Update Following Heart Surgery

Earlier this year former Iron Maiden singer and current solo artist/Wolfsbane frontman Blaze Bayley suffered a heart attack. Bayley underwent quadruple bypass surgery, which obviously resulted in all future live dates being canceled for the foreseeable future while the singer recovers.

Earlier this week, Bayley offered his first video update since the surgery to thank fans for all the support.

“I’m back! I have survived,” Blaze said.

“Thank you so much for your good wishes. Thank you for your concern. I am recovering. It’s very, very slow to recover from heart surgery, but I’m doing it. And thank you so, so much for your support. Thank you for buying my tour merch to keep me going. Thank you for buying my live album, and I hope that I will see you back in action at the end of the year.”

Bayley will release a new live album, “Damaged Strange Different and Live” on July 7.

A recent press release reads:

Metal Hall of Fame inductee, Blaze Bayley, releases a brand new live album, featuring versions of songs from his last studio album ‘War Within Me’ and also songs he wrote and/or performed during his time in Iron Maiden (1994-1999).

A recent press release reads: “The 5 songs from ‘War Within Me’ were recorded on tour in the UK, and the remainder were recorded in France. The album title, ‘Damaged Strange Different and Live’, is taken from the lyrics of the song ‘Warrior’. Official release date is 7th July and the album is available to order on vinyl LP, CD and digital platforms.”

“Having started his career as a professional singer with Wolfsbane in 1984, Blaze went on to front Iron Maiden, touring worldwide and releasing two studio albums – ‘The X Factor’ and ‘Virtual XI’, both of which achieved top twenty status in many countries. During his time with Iron Maiden, Blaze co-wrote the single ‘Man on the Edge’ (from ‘The X Factor’ album), a top ten hit in the UK, as well as charting successfully across Europe.”

“Following his exit from Iron Maiden he has pursued a solo career, beginning with his now legendary solo debut album ‘Silicon Messiah’ in 2000, followed by a further ten studio albums, including particular interest in his sci-fi based ‘Infinite Entanglement’ trilogy (released in consecutive years 2016-2018) and the critically-acclaimed ‘War Within Me’ released in 2021.”

The 59-year-old singer spoke about his most recent studio album with Web Is Jericho at the time.

“I thought, ‘I’ve got to do something positive,’” Bayley said of making the album during a global pandemic.

“People have been waiting two years for my next studio album, and they’re gonna take me and put me in their head. They’re gonna take me into their car, and I’ll be living in their car with them. They’re gonna take me into their bedroom and put me on their hi-fi.”

“So when I get there, what am I gonna say to my fans that have supported me loyally and kept me going through the most difficult times? What am I gonna say to them in these difficult times? It has to be good. It has to be uplifting. It has to give each person the feeling that if they think things are hopeless, there is hope. If they feel weak and under siege and they can’t carry on, they can find the strength to carry on. And that’s what I wanted to do.”
