Last year, Butcher Babies singer Carla Harvey made a surprise announcement that she was leaving the band. “Over the last 6 months You may have noticed my absence from Butcher Babies posts,” she said. “After 15 years of dedication, I wanted to let you know that I will not be rejoining the band for any future endeavors.”
Harvey later went on to explain that family factored into her decision. “There’s so much that goes into being in a band, especially as you get older and your life changes, you have relationships, you have a partner,” she said. “I have a stepdaughter, and the idea, all of a sudden, of being on the road 10, 12 months out of the year became just a lot to handle. And in a band there’s five people, and half of those people may feel like they want to be on the road constantly all the time and then some people are, like, ‘Maybe it’s halftime.’ So it doesn’t always work out for the greater good of everybody.”
Her break from music, however, appears to be short lived. Harvey announced that she has joined industrial/electronic staples Lords Of Acid, and will begin recording vocals for the band’s new album and join them on 27-date U.S. tour later this year. The Lords Of Acid gig will also be in addition to her other previously announced project, The Violent Hour.
“I had three favorite bands in high school: Guns N’ Roses, Pantera and Lords Of Acid,” Harvey said in a press release. “Each one shaped me and uniquely influenced me as an artist. LOA had me hooked from the moment I heard ‘I Sit On Acid’ as a teenager dancing the night away at Detroit’s goth Industrial Haven City Club. My obsession with LOA only grew after I saw Coop’s artwork on the cover of ‘Voodoo U’. Now I get to record an album and go on tour with my industrial heroes! Pinch 16-year-old me! She’ll be the one in the vocal booth. While my new band The Violent Hour is set to release its first single in February, I’m adding a bucket list item to my resume: Reigning ‘Acid Queen’. Praise the Lords!”
