ECW Original Slams WWE’s Royalty Payment Practices

Kevin Nash recently made it known that WWE’s royalty payments have significantly dropped under TKO, suggesting he may have to take legal action over it. And now, while discussing this on his YouTube channel, ECW original Steve Richards revealed that he hasn’t received a royalty payment in over a decade. Exactly how much money Richards feels he is owed wasn’t declared, but considering he hasn’t been in a WWE video game in almost 20 years, and the company doesn’t have the rights to the bWo intellectual property, it’s doubtful he is owed much.

“Forensic accounting could reveal a lot more than just royalty issues. I’m telling you, I haven’t seen a single check in 10 years. It’s not like I’m owed on the nWo level, but I still want to know what they owe me. I’m actually going to email talent relations after this and ask if I’m owed any royalty checks, because I haven’t gotten one in 8 to 10 years … The percentage wrestlers get from merchandise is about one-third of one percent. There’s a lot of zeros before that one. And here’s the trick, it’s not based on gross, it’s based on net. That means after they deduct all their costs, you get a tiny slice of what’s left.”Stevie Richards

Stevie Richards, real name Michael Manna, was never pushed as a major star, but is fondly remembered for his work in WWE, WCW, ECW, TNA, and ROH, with his bWo and Right To Censor runs arguably the most significant of his career. However, he is no longer directly involved in the business, having retired in 2021. Still, he remains in touch with fans via the aforementioned Stevie Richards Show, where he is clearly comfortable burning bridges, as he no longer earns his living in the ring.
