Thanks to his runs in ECW and WCW, Raven became a ’90s wrestling star, with moments such as “the chair shot heard around the world” and his 5-minute match against Goldberg on Nitro being considered defining moments. However, in the eyes of many, he never fulfilled his full potential, due to addiction issues, and now, ahead of the release of his documentary, he has revealed, while speaking to Tod Gordon, that his brain is “fried,” and he has been suffering from gout.

“I don’t remember a whole lot anymore. My brain is fried … It’s weird how people remember stuff. Like, I remember a lot of stuff, but I forgot a lot of stuff … I got gout for my excessive drinking.”Raven

60-year-old Raven broke into the business in 1988 after earning a degree in criminal justice and spending time in the Marine Corps Reserves. From there, he worked under the names Scotty The Body, Scotty Flamingo, and Johnny Polo before totally reinventing himself in ECW as Raven, a character inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s poem. Subsequently, he also wrestled for WWE, WCW, TNA, and ROH under that gimmick, notably winning the United States Championship and NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.
