Last year, Dustin Rhodes signed a six-year contract to remain part of AEW, with it noted that, in addition to being a talent, he also had the role of a coach and brand ambassador. Still, despite being 56 years old, the second-generation star has proven he can hang in the ring with men half his age and was rewarded with a short run as TNT Champion.

However, it now appears he is set for a spell on the sidelines, as according to a tweet, he has been told by doctors he needs “a very invasive major surgery.” And while some fans immediately claimed this was a storyline, Rhodes has subsequently returned to social media to, unfortunately, assure fans it isn’t.

Rhodes broke into the business in 1988, and thanks to being the son of Dusty Rhodes, he received the opportunity to work for WCW, All Japan, and WWE during his rookie years. Yet, despite nepotism undoubtedly being a significant factor in pro wrestling, he would go on to prove he more than deserved his spot and ultimately cemented his legacy in the business as Goldust, portraying the character on and off in WWE between 1996 and 2018.
