With the recent release of its fourth season, “Stranger Things” has been one of the hottest trending Netflix shows of the summer. The show, premiered on Netflix in 2016, and the series earned widespread critical and audience acclaim. Set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, the show was created by the Duffer Brothers and sports a cast including Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard and Millie Bobby Brown, among many others. Pop culture references to the ’80s have made the series a hit for fans of nostalgia while also attracting a widespread new audience of all ages.

The show also made headlines in the heavy metal community with the addition of new character, metalhead Eddie Munson. Munson performs what he calls “the most metal concert ever” in the dark, alternate universe of the show as he shreds Metallica’s “Master Of Puppets” in an attempt to help his friends vanquish the show’s penultimate villain, Vecna.

Variety recently reported that the Duffer Brothers are set to launch a “Stranger Things” spinoff as well as a stage play. Matt and Ross’ company, Upside Down Pictures, is in charge of both projects. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said: “Matt and Ross are an exceptionally unique talent with a vision so crisp and clear. They are all about the details — it’s no accident that Stranger Things has pierced the zeitgeist to become the epic pop culture phenomenon it is today. We’re excited to continue telling new stories with them as they grow Upside Down Pictures… ”

Last week Metallica issued a statement talking about “Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer using the song in the show. “The way The Duffer Brothers have incorporated music into ‘Stranger Things’ has always been next level, so we were beyond psyched for them to not only include ‘Master Of Puppets’ in the show but to have such a pivotal scene built around it. We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away… it’s so extremely well done, so much so, that some folks were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in the trailer!! How crazy cool is that? It’s an incredible honor to be such a big part of Eddie’s journey and to once again be keeping company with all of the other amazing artists featured in the show.”

Metallica also shared a TikTok video where the band duets with Munson via split screen. “Eddie… this is for you!” reads the caption on Metallica’s video. Bassist Robert Trujillo’s son, Tye, also contributed additional guitar tracks to the version of “Master of Puppets” that appears in the show.
