Dawn Marie Reveals Why She Didn’t Go To The Media Following Her Lawsuit Against WWE

Dawn Marie’s WWE run ended abruptly in 2005 when the company released her while she was on maternity leave. Subsequently, she filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for wrongful termination, which resulted in a lawsuit, and two years later, WWE settled out of court. And now, following Janel Grant’s lawsuit getting so much publicity, the former Diva has revealed during a new interview why she didn’t go to the media herself at the time.

“At that time there was like Geraldo and Nancy Grace. And, I don’t know they were all calling me. They all wanted me on their shows to sh*t on them. But I would never sh*t on the business. Never. I would never. It’s just how I was raised in the business. You don’t sh*t on it. By sh*tting on the business, I’m sh*tting on everyone that came before me. How dare I? I can’t do that. So I just handled my business, and that was it. I never went public.”

Dawn Marrie broke into the business in 1995 after a talent agent booked her to manage Tony Atlas in a match against Jimmy Snuka. From there, she would begin training, and by 1998 had caught the attention of ECW who she worked for until they closed in 2001. However, her true big break occurred in 2002 when she joined WWE, initially as Vince McMahon’s on-screen legal assistant. Later, she would have a very memorable storyline with Torrie Wilson’s real-life father, Al, which saw the pair marry during an episode of SmackDown.
