Last week, Eddie Van Halen’s son, Wolfgang, revealed why plans for a tribute concert to his father haven’t materialized, inferring that the issues surrounding such a show had to do with original Van Halen singer, David Lee Roth. “What I can say is that there was an attempt at doing something,” he said. “But, you know, I don’t like to speak negatively about people, but there are some people that make it very difficult to do anything when it comes to Van Halen. After being in Van Halen for a long time, I really have strived to have an environment where there is no walking on eggshells and there is no personality that you have to deal with. It’s just guys having fun making music and just having a good time. But, you know, from my time in Van Halen, there was always some stuff that gets in the way from just making music and having a good time. And, I think, that’s what happened.”

Wolfgang said that “some people can be hard to work with. So I could just say sh*t, but people have already decided how they feel about things, facts or not. So I can say the facts. But that may not align with how certain people feel. I know how Van Halen fans get. They are very motivated by which specific people they like in the band. And it’s just not worth it. Just, we made an attempt, and some people can be hard to work with, and made it not happen.”

Earlier this week, Roth released a new song, “Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Back Then Anyway.” The video on YouTube features a photo of the classic lineup of Van Halen. It was reportedly recorded along with numerous other songs in 2007 and features guitarist John 5 for an album that hasn’t been released yet. “We laughed, we cried, we threw the television off that balcony. That memory means so much to me,” sings Roth in the song.

In a recent interview with the “Paltrocast With Darren Paltrowitz,” John 5 talked about the track after being asked if he gets a notice every time one of the previously unreleased songs he’s recorded with Roth is made available.  “I don’t get a notice, which is funny,” he said. “I just find out on Blabbermouth or something. But there’s a song that I just can’t wait for Dave to release. It’s called ‘Nothing Could Have Stopped Us’ and it’s about Van Halen. It’s my favorite song that I’ve ever done with Dave, and it is beautiful. I don’t know why he’s not releasing that one yet. And I just can’t wait for people to hear that one. ‘Cause it’s about Van Halen. It’s just absolutely wonderful. I just am really looking forward to him releasing that one.”

John 5 also elaborated on those 2007 recording sessions. “We had a great time. We had a blast — a lot of laughs, a lot of fun. I’m just so happy that I had that cool working vibe with Dave that we can just jump into the studio anytime and knock out some songs. And I’m very lucky ’cause not a lot of people get a chance to do that with Dave. We were all in there together — I remember we were just all in there together. And that’s how it was. We were all just doing it together — kind of like the old days, and he wanted to do it like that. And it really was a lot of fun. We had so much fun doing it. And it’s one of my fondest memories.”
