Metal legends Megadeth surprised fans earlier this year when they announced that their upcoming tour will be their last. The band is set to release their final album early next year, and singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine shared with Kerrang! just how long he thinks the farewell trek will last.

The 64-year-old Mustaine said: “We’re easily talking about touring for another three to five years. And if we’re going to be doing it for that long then, sh*t, I’ll be looking at the birthday I don’t even want to think about.” Explaining why Megadeth is ending, Mustaine said: “I’m not caught up in longevity and stuff like that, and being one of those guys who can play until he’s in his 80s. I have to remember that people live and they die. And I need to take good care of myself.”

The band’s final album will also include a cover of the Metallica classic “Ride The Lightning,” which Mustaine co-wrote during his time with the band. “Our intentions were pure,” Mustaine explained previously. “I didn’t have any reason I was going to say, ‘Oh, hey man, this thing that we’ve had for 40 years where you guys will never tour with me, me doing the song is going to change things.’ That wasn’t it at all. It was more about: This is my life going forward. I want to do things that are respectable. And I think doing something where we can pay honor to the guy that … I mean, I hate to say this, because it’s just so f*cking arrogant, but the guitar playing in Metallica changed the world.”
