Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has largely been out of the public spotlight in recent months following his reveal that he fathered a child out of wedlock. Last year, it was reported that the band scrapped a summer tour while Grohl attempted to get his personal life in order.
Grohl made his return to the stage, however, as the surviving members of Nirvana reunited for FireAid, performing four of the band’s classic tracks with a cast of vocalists including Joan Jett, Kim Gordon, St. Vincent and Grohl’s daughter Violet.
During “All Apologies,” Grohl and his daughter shared the song’s famous refrain, and it was the only time that Foo Fighters frontman used a microphone on stage. He didn’t address the crowd.
Grohl’s admission to fathering a child outside of his marriage came via social media last year. “I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage,” Grohl wrote. “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved as we move forward together.”
