Damian Priest Discloses The Painful Secret Behind Why He’s Wrestling Fewer Matches

While Damian Priest has become one of WWE’s most prominent stars in 2025, he has only wrestled 24 times, compared to 76 in 2024. And now, during a new interview with the Prince St. Pizza YouTube channel, he has revealed that he is battling multiple injuries, including torn shoulders, knee issues, and back problems, and therefore, the company reduced his ring time to preserve his health and hopefully avoid surgery.

“This year, the company decided to slow things down a bit because I’ve been going hard for a long time. I’ve torn my shoulder a couple of times in the last year and a half. My knees are banged up. My back is rough. I need a lot of work done, but I choose not to unless I absolutely have to. So this year, the company basically said, ‘We’re happy with you, but we need to make sure you last.’ They’ve been forcing me to take it easy, and that’s not the easiest thing to do when you love going out there and performing.”Damian Priest

43-year-old Priest, real name Luis Martínez, began his career on the independent circuit before joining Ring of Honor. In 2018, he signed with WWE and excelled in NXT, winning the North American Championship in 2020. On the main roster, Priest claimed the United States Championship, Undisputed Tag Team Titles twice with Finn Bálor, the 2023 Money in the Bank contract, and the World Heavyweight Championship thanks to being part of The Judgment Day. However, he has since left the group and recently reformed his Terror Twins tag team with Rhea Ripley.
