Following Friday night’s TNA Emergence event, Sami Callihan would live up to the stipulation that if he lost a Baltimore Street Fight to Mike Santana, he would retire. This would leave many longtime TNA fans dispirited, although some have questioned whether it was part of a storyline, as Terry Funk, Mick Foley, and Ric Flair all taught fans they should be skeptical when it comes to retirements. Still, it appears that Callihan’s retirement is real, as Fightful Select has reported the 37-year-old has been struggling due to having suffered some serious injuries.
Callihan, who worked for WWE as Solomon Crowe, had been with TNA, then called Impact Wrestling, since 2017, with arguably his most memorable feud in the company coming in 2019 when he had a lengthy feud with Tessa Blanchard, which involved the Impact World Championship.
Additionally, he was featured in Impact Wrestling’s working relationship with AEW when he worked a high-profile singles match with Kenny Omega at Slammiversary 2021. And while his real-life friendship with Jon Moxley has seen speculation that a run in AEW could be in his future, it appears working such a hard-hitting style for 19 years has left his body unable to continue as an in-ring performer.
