Following Full Gear, it was reported that MJF was banged up after his hard-hitting match with Jay White. It was said that the AEW World Champion was struggling with both an injured hip and shoulder, but it was hoped he simply needed rest to recover. However, Dave Meltzer has now reported on X that MJF has suffered a torn labrum, which could sideline him for some time. MJF would also share this news himself on the social media platform, confirming it was his left shoulder, but deleted his post shortly afterward.
How long MJF will be out of action depends on how severe the tear is, but it is likely to be months if he requires surgery. Obviously, the timing couldn’t be worse for AEW, with the promotion having recently lost MJF’s tag team partner and fellow main eventer Adam Cole long-term due to a broken ankle. Yet, based on what has been reported, it at least seems his match at Worlds End with Samoa Joe is still on.
