Chris Jericho Warns His Fellow AEW Wrestlers To Not Take Their Creative Freedom For Granted

The All Out post-show media scrum initiated a backstage fight between CM Punk and The Elite, which has since dominated the headlines. However, other wrestlers also appeared during scrum sharing their insight, and Chris Jericho, fresh off his victory over Bryan Danielson, would reveal during his time that he has been reminding the locker room not to take AEW for granted. Specifically noting that all it takes is for the wrong person (likely an advertiser or television executive) to be offended, and it could ruin things for everyone. Adding that, he came to understand this after working for Vince McMahon for two decades.

QUOTE

My message always is to remind people how special AEW is and don’t take that for granted. Swearing and that sort of thing. All it takes is the wrong guy to see somebody say “p*ssy.” Please don’t ruin or potentially ruin this amazing world we’ve created. Where I came from, working for Vince for 20 years, these kinds of things were unacceptable. I’m trying to let people know that these types of things are unacceptable as well.

One of the best things about AEW for the talents is that they are afforded a certain amount of creative freedom compared to how WWE, under Vince McMahon, was run. However, this tightly scripted approach led Roman Reigns to say “suffering succotash,” which was totally against his character. And while this is an extreme example, outside of the Attitude Era, there is no way McMahon would have permitted a wrestler to wear a t-shirt that included the word “p*ssy,” which Jungle Boy recently did on Dynamite. And while you can criticize McMahon for many things, his approach did allow WWE to become a money-making juggernaut.
